How This Tool Works
Side-by-Side Comparison
Compare up to 5 treks at once. See key metrics, elevation profiles, and effort scores side by side to make informed decisions.
Effort Index
A comprehensive score (0-100) combining five factors: Physical Demand, Technical Challenge, Altitude Stress, Endurance, and Remoteness. Higher scores indicate more demanding treks.
Physical Demand
Based on daily elevation gain and terrain type. Rocky, technical terrain increases the score. Accounts for total cumulative ascent over the trek.
Technical Challenge
Derived from difficulty rating, terrain complexity (boulder fields, glaciers, scree), and any technical sections requiring special skills or equipment.
Altitude Stress
Measures high-altitude impact starting from 2,000m. Treks reaching 5,000m+ score highest. Consider acclimatization needs for high scores.
Endurance
Combines daily distance with trek duration. Longer multi-week expeditions score higher than short weekend trips, even at similar daily distances.
Remoteness
Evaluates how far from civilization you'll be. Factors include trail marking, environment type, geographic location, and trek duration.
Data Completeness
Shows how much verified data we have for each trek. Higher percentages mean more reliable comparisons. We're constantly improving our database.
A note on accuracy: Effort scores are computed from available data and may vary from personal experience. Factors like weather, fitness level, and pack weight significantly affect actual difficulty. Always research thoroughly before embarking on any trek.
