What is a GPX and how do you use it?
A GPX file is a standard GPS format that stores a route as a track (a line you can follow on a map) and, when included, elevation data for the same track.
You can import a GPX into most hiking and navigation apps (or GPS devices) to view the route offline, follow it in the field, and compare your position to the planned line. GPX is a planning and navigation reference – not a guarantee of trail conditions.
How it works in practice: download → import into your app → save for offline use → follow the track on the map.
GPX downloads on Trek’n’Trails
GPX Basic
Includes a GPX track with embedded elevation data — the same track shown in the Trek’n’Trails map.
It’s a simple navigation reference: track + elevation only, no extra waypoints.
GPX Premium
Includes the main track plus a curated set of waypoints (e.g., key junctions, passes, huts, water points, resupply/services, and other navigation-relevant POIs — depending on the route). Some Premium files may also include optional alternatives where it makes sense.
GPX Huts & Water
Includes the main track plus waypoints for rifugios, bivouacs and water sources — both along the route and nearby alternatives. No junctions, passes or other POIs.
