Poon Hill trek is hands down, the best, short and relatively easy trekking in Nepal. Therefore, if you are looking for a quick getaway by going on a trek on the Himalayas, but are not sure if you are fit enough to go trekking, or you are short on time for a long trek, then Poon Hill Trek is the most suitable and enjoyable experience for you.
Main attractions of Poon Hill trekking in Nepal
The main attraction of this route is the highest point you will travel in this trek, Poon Hill(3210m). After a short hike early in the morning, you will reach the Pooh Hill peak from where you will have a majestic view of the sunrise along with breath-taking views of the mountain ranges. The early morning ray of sunlight leaking from the mountain caps will fill your heart with immense joy.

Poon Hill trek offers an up-close experience with the Himalayas of the Annapurna region. In addition, prominent views of Mt. Dhaulagiri ranges, Mt. Poon-Hill trek starts from Nayapul after one and a half-hour drive from Pokhara. On the trek, you will pass through some eye-catching villages of Ghorepani, Ghandruk, and Ulleri. Similarly, inhabited by very delightful and hospitable people of Gurung and Magar communities from Nepal, the trek can be an amalgam of the rustic mountainous journey.
Cost of Poon Hill trekking in Nepal
The trekking is very famous among budget travelers and backpackers as it is one of the least expensive trekking in the Himalayan region that starts as low as 100 USD. However, the experience one can accumulate over the trek are simply above the par.
Permit required for Poon Hill trek
The Annapurna Conservation permit, (ACAP), and Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) are required while trekking on this route. The general price for a permit is $10 USD.
Chances of altitude sickness during the trek
The chances of altitude sickness are very low for this trekking as the maximum elevation of this trek is only 3210 meters and there is plenty of room during the trekking for dealing with acclimatization.
We recommend you to get a trekking guide even though a lot of hikers think they don’t need one. This is because a guide can give you further information on the mountain range you are traveling along-side and also help you get accustomed to the local culture and people in general. But if you don’t want to take a guide then that should be just fine too as the paths are pretty straight-forward. Lastly, taking a porter depends on your fitness level as well as the size of your backpack.

I am planning to hike this beginning March 28 with my friend. We are not planning to hire a guide. Do you have any advice for us? We also need to hire a vehicle to get us to the trail-head, do you have any recommendations for hiring a ride?
The trails are quite straightforward and I dont think you will need a guide for this trek in particular. It is also one of the famous trek in Nepal so you will find many hikers on the way. There are a lot of places in Pokhara that offer vehicle renting services. You can reserve a vehicle from Pokhara to Nayapul and then begin your hike to Poonhill.
