Mera Peak (6,461m/21,190ft) is the highest trekking peak in Nepal. Mera Peak trek is one of the most impressive trekking peaks and holds as the highest trekking peak among other over 6,000 meters. The climbing grade is rated as PD (Peu Difficile / a little technical difficult and walking on glaciers) while you can expect that anywhere trekking in Nepal.
From the peak astonishing views of the Himalayan vista is seen from the summit with five 8,000m peaks visible including Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Kanchenjunga. This trekking takes us to enclosed and well hidden paradise Hinku valley. The valley is in perfect isolation on the remote side of Khumbu and Everest region and is filled with flora and fauna like dense pristine forest of rhododendron, magnolia, birch and pine trees.
After leaving the forest tree lines leads to arctic zone with ice, glaciers and moraine, starting the climb from High Camp at 5,780 meters, with proper rest and acclimatization in Mera Base Camp 5,300meters, the approach to the summit is straight forward climb with less technical challenges.
Mera Peak climbing is a viable option for anyone with moderate mountaineering experience and also for those who want to train before going on bigger expeditions. Due to its elevation it provides a challenge however the technical mountaineering skills requirement is very basic making it easy for the new climbers.
Similar to other trek in Nepal, National park entry permits, Pasang Lahmu rural municipality entry fee, climbing permit and TIMS card are the necessary permits you will need. Make sure you take the necessary gears with you before you begin the climb as accommodation is generally camping in tents. Having a guide is a must in this trip who will help you with the climb through the safest routes possible. Altitude sickness is one of the most common problems encountered during the trek and you should be ready for it just in case. We highly recommend you to insure your trip before embarking on the journey as well.
