Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri trek

A prominent view of Lake gokyo and surrounding snow capped mountain peaks.

The Gokyo Lakes Trek is one of the finest trek available in the Everest region where trekkers can relish the inundating view of deep blue and green lakes. Apart from the enthralling beauty of the lakes, trekkers can visibly submerge into the captivating sceneries of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho Oyu and Mt. Lhotse all ranging above the height of 8000 meters. Also, the spectacular view of Ngozumpa glacier, largest in Nepal, can leave anyone speechless for a moment. The ultimate thrill of trekking in Nepal begins from the very first flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. Landing on the airport can be a nerve wracking experience for anyone who has never flown to Lukla before. The intimidating elevation and topography, topped by narrow and short runway can leave anyone dubious about their safe landing. However, there is no such risk as the planes flying in the region are small and suitable for such trip.

This 10-15 days trek follows the same route as Everest base camp trek in Nepal upto the lively village of Namche Bazar. From Namche Bazar trekkers head to Phorse, Machhermo and finally Gokyo valley. Your tour guide generally lets you spend a day at the valley to build acclimatization from where you will head to summit of Gokyo Ri next morning. Unlike, Everest base camp trek you will spend very less time in higher elevation during this trek which minimizes the risk of altitude sickness. This tea house trek in Nepal is very popular among the people who are daunted to experience the Everest base camp trek, but still want to get the very similar experience out of their trek. This is because trekkers can see the exact same mountain sceneries as seen from the Everest Base camp region. Trekkers in general, walk 5 hours a day during this trek.

Buying a trek package from a trusted tour provider can be a good value for your money as the tour operator will manage all this for you hassle free. In general your trek package may include a travel insurance, food and accommodation throughout the trip, plane tickets to and from Lukla, airport pickup and drop and hotel stay at Kathmandu.
